The hardest question of all!  How do you learn what you think you understand?

If I believe I understand a subject would I continue to learn more or just except that I understand and move on?!?!?

An individuals can not attend true knowledge once understanding has been reached, therefore most people that claim they understand something might never KNOW it!  I doubt knowledge can come from people that believe they understand something and I doubt the theory of causation!  A fish in a tank knows little about where the food comes from but if my fish were asked they might think it comes from the light because as the light comes on food comes down from the direction of the light.  Does this mean the light is the source the food or that the fish are not good at causation?  People like my fish see causes in things but are the true cause or just another effect of an unknown cause?   How foolish is the fool that thinks he understands things that are beyond his scope of vision!

I also have little faith in a consensus of a group of experts because a so-called expert might be smart and know a lot but have they gone beyond understanding to find true knowledge?  Have the group focused on the real problem or a false causation which they just agree is the cause?

Example:  A blacksmith may be a skilled worker with metals.  A single blacksmith might be of above-average intelligence and very confident in his beliefs.  If this blacksmith were asked why a car does not run the answer may or may not be valid because his knowledge does not include combustion.  Yet if he were to form a theory and other blacksmiths that know of his great intellect were to agree they may have a ' consensus of a group of experts' but is it a correct theory that would lead to the car being made to run.  Or like most intellectuals would they pat each other on the back for a job well done and forget the car all together!  The mechanic, who is not held to be as much as an intellectual, will come along turn a screw and the car starts right up.  With or without the theory of a 'consensus of a group of experts'  the car gets fixed!  Yet the intellectuals believe that they were a valuable aid in the repair!

History is full of wackos that have impressive ideas on all sorts of things that have later been found to be nonsense!   History is full of this kind of nonsense, class systems; affirmative action; ageism; deviance.  Centuries from now, how many of these theories will prove to be nothing more then impressive word play?  How many of our great thinkers will be thought insane because of new knowledge?  How many great ideas have been killed off because some higher authority did not have all the facts?

The ideas like affirmative action cause more harm than good but the so-called experts think it works so if anyone disagrees they must be evil and full of hate!  What poppycock will they come up with next?  I feel sorry for the children that will have to deal with solutions like this  from today's experts!

This is a simple way to display the df info on a Linux system. It calculates free space in a human readable format


df -Tx tmpfs -x devtmpfs | grep /  | sort -rnk 1 |awk '{  printf " %-10s %-15s %7.3f   %7.3f   %7.3f \n", $1, $7, (($5/1024)/1024),(($3/1024)/1024),(($5/$3)*100)   } ';

This script is a one-liner that can display free space in a human readable format.
